because after I got over my dislike, the practice would have been really helpful for all of my future job. This, along with my inability to draw, has been a problem that cannot be fixed. I also often visited the hospital’s clinical wards. I was really troubled by some of the situations, and I can still clearly recall some of them, but I was not so naive as to let this cause me to attend less frequently. I find it difficult to understand why this aspect of my medical education did not pique my interest more, especially since the summer before I arrived in Edinburgh, I started caring for some of the poor, primarily children and women in Shrewsbury. I wrote down as much information about the case as I could, including all the symptoms, and read it aloud to my father, who suggested additional research and gave me advice on what medications to administer, which I had developed myself.
